The Unspoken Humanitarian Crisis

How can our global community, more connected and informed than ever, still allow the pleas of those in need to fall on deaf ears?

As we spiral further into the chaotic depths of 2020, the threat of war looms over us all but for some, arguably, more than others.

This isn’t Iran vs. America as social media so trends, this is Government vs Government. There are nations of people out there fearing for their lives following demonisation in each other’s media.

Over the past days I’ve heard of people from the US fearing for their Iranian families lives and an anonymous post from a young man pleading with people for advice on how to hide from being drafted. One recording in particular had me close to tears – an American-Iranian man weeps in an airport as his brother is deported.

It’s funny how easily you can forget about those without voices, without a platform of free speech to shout from. In the Western world, even in the threat of war, we place faith in our Governments and militaries to ease our anxieties but for many people this isn’t an option. Iran, Syria, Lybia, I could go on, how many of these people live each day under a barrage of bombshells and broken promises? How many people have watched their families die?

War is deeper than mass media will tell you, behind every bodyguard protected Government official is a citizen fearing for their lives and the lives of those around you.

Don’t fall into the media-blinded masses. Be thankful for what you have, in respect for those who do not.
